E38 740iL Original 9x12” Gouache Painting

An original gouache painting by Rae Roberts of an E38 740iL on watercolor paper. This painting holds a special sentimental value, as it is the actual car that Rae traded one of her paintings for. The E38 740iL is a car that, when new, businessmen would be driven in. In other words, it was BMW’s long-wheelbased luxury flagship car that came with so many spec options that there really was no getting it wrong while ordering. The 40i and 40iL cars share a 4.4L M62 V8 engine with the E31 840ci, and the big brother 750i shared a gnarly V12 with the 850ci. Though it’s not known as a driver’s car per se, it is an extremely comfortable ride as if it’s not over 4,000 lbs- many cars even had self-leveling suspension as an option from factory. All painting proceeds to count towards the modification budget of Rae’s new E38 740iL.
